Poggio De Colli I.G.T. 75cl (2020) PIAGGIA

Using old clones of French origin Cabernet, and after years of careful vinification and tastings, Piaggia now produce this Cabernet Franc in purity. The vine has found in the Tuscan soils an ideal habitat to express remarkable elegance, finesse and complexity in wine. The Poggio de' Colli is the result of a desire to combine top French winemaking tradition with the heart and soul of Tuscany - a wine capable of being absolutely unique and distinguished. Grown at an altitude of 250m, the grapes are selected from the best plots and vinified in open wooden containers with natural yeasts and manual punching before being left for skin contact over 2 weeks. The wine is drawn off the lees and transferred into French oak barriques to mature for at least 15 months, after which it is bottled without any filtration or clarification and left to refine for 6 months before release. Its colour is deep, intense ruby red with purple highlights and a bouquet of raspberries, brambles, eastern spice, coffee and licorice plus balsamic overtones and hints of mint and light smoke. In the mouth it is chewy and extremely elegant with soft, silky tannins and a pleasantly supple, clean and long finish.
